Various Dog Friendly Beaches
Inverloch, Victoria
Bass Strait

Inverloch is a bit of a holiday destination for a number of Melbourners down on
the East Coast. The town is fairly dog friendly, with a farmer's market on the
3rd Sunday of each month which you can wander about with your dog between the stalls
to look for something unique. The town also has two good beaches to spend time
with your dog, one a river outlet that becomes a large sandy area to explore at
low tide, another being the surf beach further along the coast where dogs are
permitted on leash during peak periods and off leash all other times.

24 Hour Dog Beach
- Shoreline - Normal sand with a few sticks, shrub area
- Popularity - Quite popular for dog owners and water activities
- Of Interest - Low tide allows for huge area to explore
- Parking - Two parking areas behind the beach, easy access
A popular beach for visitors and locals alike. There was a number of people here on paddleboards
and wind surfers when we visited at high tide. The beach appears small at first, but it continues
around some scrubland and opens into a second section. The water is nice and clear with plenty of
sticks to find and play fetch with.

From what I've been told, at low tide the water recedes a fair bit which allows you to go exploring
across a lot of sand flats. Thus opening up the area fairly significantly for a proper run around.
That means that at high tide there is plenty of shallow water to wade around in, to get your dog
confident in the water.

There's a little grass reserve at the western end of the beach with picnic tables and a sheltered
area. Being not far from the town center, I'd imagine you could spend a good chunk of time at
this beach with your family and dogs just relaxing.

Surf Beach
TIME RESRICTIONS
Dec 1 to Feb 28 (9am to 6pm) - Leashed
Easter School Holidays (9am to 6pm) - Leashed
All Other times - Off Leash!
- Shoreline - Good Sand, little bit of sea weed
- Popularity - Low volume, just a few dogs
- Of Interest - Surfing! Waves!
- Parking - Parking on side of street, narrow walkways through scrub to beach
With the town being so close by its very handy to be able to hit the local surf beach with your buddy.
If your dog is adventurous, take them out on the waves with you, or just chill out on the sand and
enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing.

The dog friendly section of the beach is fairly small, and the beaches to the east are on leash
all year. If you don't mind them being leashed you can get a decent walk up and down the coast
line. But it seems new restrictions have gone in place for the Life Saving Club beach, as dogs
are no longer permitted during 9am-6pm during the peak period.
|
Getting access to the beach is done through narrow sandy walkways off of "Surf Parade", some
entrances are a bit steep when getting down to the beach, so if you're not confident with
footing you may need to try a few different entrances.
