Brighton (Sandown St) Beach, Dog Leash Free Area

One of the most well known dog Beaches in Melbourne is not far from the classic Brighton Baths.
You can partake in dog focused frolicking at this small beach inlet 24 hours a day every day of
the year. Its sheltered behind the main marina so the waves tend to be fairly small if the wind
is blowing, so its great for those less confident dogs getting use to water. They'll see other
dogs playing and swimming around, which maybe inspire a bit of exploration into the water themselves.

Come low tide you can easily wander around with only shorts on the many sand banks or shallow islands.
Plenty of small sand dunes also for your dog to sniff around and explore away from the water.
It is a very popular location, you will need to keep an eye on any of your dogs that may not be
tolerant of other dogs getting up in their face or are a tad dominating. With so many dogs
running around enjoying themselves, it's easy for some of the less socially savvy dogs to become
overwhelmed and cause problems. This is even more common on the hot days when an owner's concern
is to cool down their dog and aren't too concerned with how their dog acts around others.

As with any Port Phillip beach, it can get a tad stinky, and being behind the marina does not help
the circulation too much, so a bit of litter does build up on the beaches. If you're visiting from
out of town, you won't miss much by not visiting here, you may actually find it more enjoyable to
walk along the main Brighton beach just south of the baths where dogs can be off leash in evening
hours. There you can see the classic Melbourne beach huts and enjoy the sunset with an un-obstructed view.
