Various Dog Friendly Beaches
Mount Martha, Victoria
Port Phillip Bay
|
|
|
A lot of the dog friendly beaches in Mount Martha are accessible after walking down hill
from Esplanade Rd. They are normally connected by a number of walking trails through the
foreshore scrubland or walkways just off the shoreline. There are two dedicated 24 hour
off leash sections and another off leash section which has restrictions between 9am and 7pm.

Hawker Beach
- Shoreline - Normal sand with lots of rocks in the water
- Popularity - Not sure
- Of Interest - Steep trail down to beach. Beach huts on either side of dog area
- Parking - Up on the Esplanade road, signs indicate trail down to beach
A cozy little shoreline in between sections of beach huts. This area is accessible from 2 trails
down from Esplanade road. Not as far of a walk like there is for Fossil Beach, but it is a bit steeper.

There is also actual sand in this location, but there is still a number of rocks once you get out into
the water. When we were there, there was also a handy couch to sit back on and enjoy the quiet lapping
of the waves. The shape of the foreshore hillside seems to really block out a lot of the noise from the
local area quite well. Good little spot to get some quiet time during the day.

Fossil Beach
- Shoreline - No sand, only smooth rocks and pebbles
- Popularity - Low volume, likely only locals
- Of Interest - Walking trail down to beach. No sand getting stuck in dog's fur
- Parking - Up on the Esplanade road, signs from top and along trail to beach
If you're looking for somewhere out of the way and fairly quiet this, place could be an option for you.
But I would imagine that unless you're a local to the area this beach will likely only have limited appeal.
The actual shoreline is comprised only of rocks and small stones, no real sand to comfortably lay back on.
So if you're sick of brushing sand out from your dog's fur, this could be a good place to visit.

You'll be walking down from Beach Rd to access this beach, which takes about 5mins.
The trail down also connects to a lot of other foreshore walking trails nearby
which can lead you onto other beaches like "Birdrock" & "Dava" beaches just a
little bit to the south. But don't worry, there's plenty of signs showing you
the way to the 24hr leash free beach
