Sandringham Harbour Beach, Dog Leash Free Area
Sandringham, Victoria
Port Phillip Bay

From google maps this place seems to be similar to Brighton Dog Beach, but
it's has its own interesting qualities that made it stand out. This is of
course an all year leash free beach.

At low tide, there is a lot of space for the dogs to run around on the beach,
and by looking at the water line, it seems that even at high tide there is
still plenty of sand to scoot around on. There are a number of short walking
trails leading around the area from various carparks, so there's no real need
to park right up against the beach on busy days. Most car parks are ticketed
from 8am to 8pm. The one I was in was $5 an hour.

There's a number of boating clubs around the area providing some interesting colour
to the sights. Looking at photos online, there does appear to be days when it can
be crowded at the beach due to people heading out on various water craft. How much
this affects access and freedom of the dogs to play around I’m not sure, hopefully
someone that frequents the place often can let us know.

The harbour is also downhill to the north, thus it seems to protect against those cold
southerly winds. When I was there, we had a cool south west wind, yet while I was on
the beach it was nothing more than a light breeze.

During low tide, the sand banks had sticky muddy sand in some spots, thus I kept getting my thongs
stuck as I tried to walk around. Ended up having to carry them all covered in sand while exploring,
so I'd personally recommend leaving shoes off if you're planning on going out to the water. I also
noticed a lot of bird foot prints in the mud, looks like the local seabirds have fun feeding there
as the water goes out.
